Police shoot at man accused of slaughtering cow as he attacks and injures them

Police shot at a suspect who attacked personnel in Duggur near Honnavar of Uttara Kannada on Sunday.

The accused, Kasarakod Faizan, was arrested in connection with a case of cow slaughter in Kondakuli near Honnavar.

When the police took the accused to the spot to take possession of the weapons used to slaughter the cow, he attacked them.

Police Inspector P. Siddarameshwara, Sub-Inspector Rajashekar Vandali, Gajanana Nayak and Ganesh Badni are the injured personnel.

Officers opened fire at the accused in self-defence. The accused and the officers are receiving treatment, the police said.

The police have interrogated over 400 people in the case. They have already arrested another accused Malkiya Taufik of Honnavar taluk. Two other accused are absconding.

A reward of ₹50,000 has been announced for information leading to their arrest, Superintendent of Police M. Narayana told reporters in Karwar on Sunday.
