Probe ordered as prisoner dies in Sedam sub-jail

A 32-year-old undertrial prisoner died of a heart attack in the Sedam taluk sub-jail of Kalaburagi district on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Riyaaz. He was accused in a robbery case and was imprisoned one-and-a-half years ago.

The doctor in the District Government Hospital declared him dead. But the police stated that Riyaaz collapsed and died after suffering an attack of fits.

As doubts were raised over Riyaaz’s death, Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil, who visited the hospital, ordered an inquiry into the circumstances leading to the prisoner’s death.
