Members of the Construction Workers’ Union staged a protest in Karaikal on Friday demanding the quick processing of applications submitted online by construction workers for registration with the Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board, Puducherry. They called for the implementation of minimum wages and better welfare measures.
The demonstration was held in front of the Labour Department office at Kamarajar Nagar. Protesters urged the authorities to swiftly approve eligible applications and address delays caused by inadequate staffing at the welfare board.
Additional demands included unemployment relief for construction workers during non-working period, similar to the support provided to fishermen during the fishing ban season. The union pressed for the timely and fair distribution of welfare benefits to registered beneficiaries.
