An amount of ₹14 lakh has been included in the ring-fenced account for the rejuvenation of the Vembanad lake in Ernakulam under the ‘Suchitwa Keralam’ (Rural) initiative by local bodies.
The assistance will be used for the implementation of five projects in the initial phase. It is part of the ₹10-crore ring-fenced account set apart by the government for the restoration of Vembanad and Ashtamudi lakes designated as Ramsar sites for their ecological importance.
Of the ₹10-crore fund, ₹2.39 crore will be disbursed for projects under the Suchitwa Keralam (Rural) programme.
An amount of ₹3.5 lakh has been set apart for implementing a liquid waste management system at GVHSS, Kaitharam, North Paravur. An allocation of ₹2.72 lakh has been made for setting up a bottle booth to tackle the menace of plastic waste.
A sum of ₹7 lakh has been earmarked for installing a bottle booth at Kottuvalli. An allocation of ₹1.12 lakh has been made for infrastructure development at a material collection facility at Kumbalanghi. The disbursal of funds under the Suchitwa Keralam (Rural) initiative will be done in accordance with the list furnished by the executive director of the programme.
