A total of 46 traffic cameras have been installed along the 28.4-km Ramanattukara–Vengalam stretch of National Highway 66 (NH66), where most of the work has already been completed. The cameras are placed on the dividers in the middle of the six-lane road.
They will soon be connected and monitored from a control room to be set up at the toll plaza near the Mampuzha bridge.
While the cameras at the toll plaza are stationary, the others along the stretch are rotating ones. They have already been tested for efficiency and can capture vehicle registration numbers and zoom in when required.
The control room will store the footage from these cameras for 15 days and monitor it constantly for traffic violations such as over-speeding, lane violations, illegal entry and exit, and rash driving. This will help take action against offenders and prevent future violations. In addition, the recordings could assist the police in investigating traffic accidents.
