Roads and Buildings (R&B) Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy, the in-charge Minister for Annamayya district, reiterated that the government was committed to speeding up development across the Annamayya district.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, after taking part in the District Development Review Committee (DDRC) meeting at the district Collectorate, the Minister said that the government remained prepared to tackle critical issues such as shortage of drinking water during the summer.

Expressing concern at the depletion of groundwater levels in the Annamayya district, Mr. Reddy informed the officials to immediately chalk out an action plan to address drinking water shortages in the district, particularly in the rural areas.

He said the officials should submit their proposals to address the water shortages to the district administration and added that there was absolutely no dearth of funds to implement the summer action plan. The Minister said that the sustainable development of the district would depend on the overall strength of various stakeholders. About 4,000 km of CC roads was constructed across the district, while the entire State has been made pothole-free, Mr. Reddy said.

A feasibility survey is being launched in the district for two new road projects under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode, the Minister said. Meanwhile in the horticulture sector, the government implemented subsidies to farmers for fruit covers to mango and banana crops.

He denied the criticism at the ‘Thalliki Vandhanam’ scheme by the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders, and said that the welfare scheme would benefit mothers regardless of the number of children. The Minister reiterated that the ‘Super Six’ initiatives of the government will also be implemented successfully.
