The registration certificate (RC) books of the vehicles will be digitised by March 31 as part of the modernisation of the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD), Transport Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar has said. Speaking after flagging off 20 vehicles procured by the MVD using the plan funds, the Minister said a system will be prepared for the candidates to go with the licence as soon as the driving test is passed.
Motor vehicle inspectors will be given a tab for this purpose. After passing the test, the licence will be available immediately as soon as the input command is given by the inspectors in the tab, he said. Twenty vehicles were purchased as part of strengthening road safety. A proposal has been submitted to the Chief Minister for the purchase of 50 more vehicles from the Road Safety Fund, he said.
The purchased vehicles will be equipped with state-of-the-art systems like breath analyzer, front and rear cameras, radar and display unit. Violations and fines will be shown on the display in six languages. MVD officials do not have to get out of the vehicle for vehicle inspection, and there is no need to obstruct the movement of motorists, he said.
Action will be initiated against the officers of the department who have not acted on a file within five days. The Minister also informed that the driving schools started by the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) have earned a profit of ₹11.5 lakh in six months.
