An inquiry report on the death of former Additional District Magistrate, Kannur, K. Naveen Babu, has confirmed the allegations levelled by the family of the deceased and the Opposition that former Kannur district panchayat president and CPI(M) leader P.P. Divya was responsible for driving him to suicide, said Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheeean.
The report has confirmed the allegation that Ms. Divya conspired to defame the official, which led to his death by suicide, Mr. Satheesan said. While CPI (M) State secretary M.V. Govindan assured the wife of the deceased official that the party was with them, Mr. Govindan’s wife was there to receive Ms. Divya upon her release from the jail. The party should clarify what message it was sending across through these acts, he added.
Mr. Satheesan called for an inquiry into the CPI(M)’s undue interventions in the case. He alleged that the party and the police are trying to protect the accused.
He demanded that the inquiry report be made a part of the police investigation.
