Science council selects more than 1,000 projects for research grants

The Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology has selected 1,014 projects for research grants.

The selected projects are being undertaken by undergraduate students in professional courses, and postgraduate students from arts and science programmes in the State.

The projects were chosen by an expert committee comprising eminent professors, scientists, and directors from universities and central institutions such as Indian Institutes of Technology, Central Leather Research Institute, and National Institute of Ocean Technology.

Once the projects are completed, the council will organise a review meeting, during which the experts will identify potential and viable projects. The patent for the technology developed will then be filed through the council’s Patent Information Centre.

The council will connect academic institutions to industries to enable the former understand the need of the latter. The students’ findings will be recorded as a scientific research paper and collated as proceedings with ISBN number, S. Vincent, member secretary, said.
