In the context of threat messages targeting government institutions, the district administration has decided to strengthen security arrangements at the Kollam Civil Station.
District Collector N. Devidas issued necessary instructions to various departments at a district-level officers’ meeting convened to review the arrangements. The issues identified after the security audit conducted by the Disaster Management Authority and the solutions were also discussed at the meeting.
The restrictions will be implemented without inconveniencing the public. A police outpost will be established in front of the collectorate and the departments concerned will conduct a joint inspection to arrange other facilities.
The Public Works Department has been entrusted with the responsibility of providing facilities for setting up an aid post. Fifty-five offices, including court, are functioning in the Civil Station.
At present, 30 CCTV cameras are installed at the collectorate while 20 CCTV cameras are functioning on the court premises. New cameras will be installed ensuring coverage of the entrance.
It has been directed to implement waste disposal in compliance with the guidelines and remove unused furniture piled up at various places around the Collectorate at the earliest. They, along with electronic waste, will be handed over to Clean Kerala Company. Vehicles that have been parked for a long time will also be removed.
Instructions have been issued to the heads of various departments to implement the arrangements as per a fire safety audit report conducted by the Fire and Rescue Services.
Directives were given to install fire extinguishers and refill and maintain them in a timely manner. Placing objects in a way that obstructs movement in the emergency exit is also prohibited.
The meeting was attended by ADM G. Nirmalkumar, Subcollector Nishant Shihara, Deputy Collectors, district-level officers, court employees, and others.
