The Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) has sought the cooperation of National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) in exploring critical minerals, along side coal mining and power generation, to meet the growing needs of the country.
The request was made by Chairman and Managing Director of SCCL N. Balaram to his NMDC counterpart Amitava Mukherjee when he visited the latter’s office here on Tuesday. Mr. Balaram went to the NMDC corporate office, along with the SCCL directors and other senior executives, to meet the NMDC CMD and directors.
During their meeting, Mr. Balaram stated that SCCL had signed an MoU (memorandum of understanding) with IIT-Hyderabad for transfer of technology and intellect in the mining of critical minerals. The vast experience of NMDC in mining various minerals, including the critical ones, would also help SCCL in its pursuit, he noted.
Mr. Balaram gave a power point presentation on the technology and experience of SCCL in coal mining and its human resources. Further, he explained about the business expansion and diversification plans of the SCCL with the cooperation of the State Government.
The NMDC-CMD said on the occasion that both NMDC and SCCL were participating in nation building for decades by mining minerals and meeting the country’s needs. The NMDC would also be ready to cooperate with SCCL which was a joint public sector undertaking of the State and Central Governments, Mr. Mukherjee said.
He also assured to examine the possibilities of making SCCL a partner in NMDC’s future projects. The NMDC would take the cooperation of SCCL, if necessary, in mining at the coal block allotted to NMDC in Jharkhand as such measures would be mutually beneficial in the long run.
