‘Singer Kalpana took overdose of sleeping pills due to disagreement with daughter’

Well-known playback singer and dubbing artiste Kalpana Raghavendar is out of danger, a day after she was rushed to a hospital, where she was found in an unconscious state at her residence in Nizampet late on Tuesday.

According to KPHB Colony Inspector S Rajasekhar Reddy, Kalpana returned to Hyderabad late on Tuesday after meeting her daughter in Kerala.

“Kalpana insisted that her daughter come back to Hyderabad and continue her education here. However, when she refused, an argument broke out between the two. Upset over that, she consumed excessive sleeping pills,” he said.

Upon being alerted by the daughter, the police rescued Kalpana from her residence and rushed her to a private hospital in the area where she is undergoing treatment. Kalpana’s husband, who was in Chennai at the time of the incident, was also summoned by the police for investigation.

Meanwhile, a day after the incident, Kalpana’s daughter issued a clarification. Speaking to the media on Wednesday, she said that her mother took an overdose of medicine prescribed by the doctor. “My mother is a singer, pursuing her LLB and PhD simultaneously, which has led to insomnia. To treat insomnia, the doctors prescribed her a tablet. It was a slight overdose. This was not an attempt at self harm,” she clarified.
