Legendary playback singer P. Jayachandran, who passed away on January 9, was cremated with State honours at his ancestral home in Chendamangalam near North Paravur in Ernakulam district on Saturday (January 11, 2025).
His son Dinanathan lit the pyre around 1.20 p.m. after the body was placed for a brief public homage at the Paliam ancestral home. He was given a ceremonial guard of honour by the Police.
Hundreds paid their last respects to the renowned singer when the ambulance carrying his body was brought to the ancestral home from his residence in Punkunnam, Thrissur in the morning. His family members recalled that he used to visit the ancestral home for various functions. “It was also his wish to be cremated in Chendamangalam,” they said.
Though the cremation was initially scheduled around 3.30 p.m., it was advanced as per the wish of his family members. Ministers M.B. Rajesh, R. Bindu, and Opposition Leader V. D. Satheesan were among those who paid their last respects to the veteran singer.
