Special Olympics ends on a high note

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that Special Olympics was an ideal means to draw the attention of society towards the lives of differently abled persons. Virtually inaugurating the valedictory ceremony of the second Special Olympics Bharat-Kerala (SOBK) for intellectually challenged persons here on Sunday, he explained the steps taken by the government to ensure that the State was differently abled-friendly.

Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran presided over the event. Mayor Beena Philip and SOBK president M.K. Jayaraj were present.

Trophies were presented to overall champions among districts and special schools. Around 5,000 athletes took part in the three-day event. The last day saw competitions in events such as 400-metre and 800-metre race and relay.

SOBK was organised with the support of the Kozhikode Corporation and Uralungal Labour Contractors’ Cooperative Society.
