The companies under the Sri City umbrella have agreed to collectively allocate ₹1 crore under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) towards nature conservation.
The decision has been taken at the symposium conducted at Sri City, which is one of the five venues selected for brainstorming, at the ongoing Flamingo Festival in Sullurpeta constituency of Tirupati district.
In response to the call given by Dr. Kishor Rithe, Director of Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), in his virtual presentation, seeking corporate partnerships to protect Pulicat Lake and migratory bird habitats, the companies agreed to join hands with BNHS in strengthening conservation efforts.
Sri City Managing Director Ravindra Sannareddy who cited the Flamingo Festival as serving a powerful reminder on safeguarding treasures such as Pulicat Lake, explained how it required collective, ongoing efforts, in line with the vision for a sustainable future.
“On behalf of the Sri City community, he announced that a total of ₹1 crore would be collectively contributed by all units under CSR for the purpose of nature conservation,” he announced.
The event has drawn policymakers, environmentalists, ecologists, nature lovers who discussed issues such as biodiversity, sustainability and eco tourism in the ecologically fragile Pulicat zone.
Ornithologists and representatives from BNHS and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) highlighted the rich biodiversity of Pulicat Lake and Nelapattu and emphasised on the need for cooperation between industries and local communities to protect the wetlands and foster a balanced relationship with nature.
Key discussions addressed floral and faunal diversity, fisheries and tourism benefits, hydrological dynamics, climate change impact, pollution mitigation, sustainable practices, and community participation in conservation efforts.
Similarly, Krea University hosted a parallel symposium on ‘Biodiversity and wetland conservation’.
