State Waqf Board officials monitor Eid arrangements

With Eid-ul-Fitr likely to be celebrated on Monday, Telangana State Waqf Board (TGSWB) officials, on Saturday, visited the Mir Alam Idgah and Madannapet Idgah to monitor the arrangements.

With the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in force, neither Chairman Syed Azmatullah Hussaini nor legislators joined them, sources said. TGSWB Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Asadullah, and other officials inspected the ongoing work.

According to the Board, ₹19 lakh has been earmarked for these two Idgahs. The funds are intended for use during Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-al-Adha, popularly known as Bakrid.

Work is under way to ensure that those who congregate at these Idgahs do not face any difficulties — canopies to shield worshippers from the sun, prayer mats, and white-washing of the premises.

Sources said that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) would arrange for water pouches or bottles.

The Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) has arranged transformers at the two Idgahs, and the GHMC is overseeing the sanitation requirements.

As the Idgah at the Qutb Shahi Tombs complex is managed by a committee, a representative from the Board will be deputed to attend a meeting.

Meanwhile, Eid festivities have already started at houses, with vermicelli, a key ingredient in Sheer Kurma, being stocked, and the traditional dastarkhwan is being prepared. Tailors are busy, most working overtime, well into the night. Ready-made garment showrooms, particularly those specialising in traditional attire, have been witnessing a surge of shoppers.
