Student alleges ragging at Karyavattom college in Kerala capital

The Karyavattom Government College has come under scanner following a ragging complaint filed by a first year biotechnology student. A preliminary inquiry by the college’s anti-ragging committee has reportedly confirmed the incident.

The complainant alleged that seven third-year students subjected him to physical and mental abuse. The anti-ragging committee has verified the claims after examining CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses.

The incident unfolded following a violent altercation between senior and junior students on February 11, during which the complainant’s friend was allegedly beaten by the seniors. Both parties had then filed complaints with the Kazhakuttam police.

According to the complainant, the senior students later abducted him, tied him up in a room and subjected him to physical assault. He had formally filed a complaint against the seniors with both the Kazhakuttam police and the college Principal. Police sources said a case will be registered on the basis of the findings.
