Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will take part in the inauguration of the Pamban rail bridge, at Pamban, Rameswaram island, on April 6, 2025. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the newly-constructed bridge.
PM Modi will remotely operate the vertical lift mechanism of the bridge from Pamban and flag off the inaugural special of Rameswaram-Tambaram Express and a Coast Guard ship, marking the inauguration of the new Pamban rail bridge and its vertical lift span, the first of its kind in the country, a statement from the Railways said.
After visiting the famous Rameswaram temple to offer prayers at the Jyotirlinga, the Prime Minister will address a public gathering, officially dedicating the Pamban bridge and a host of National Highway projects to the nation, the statement added.
Mr. Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the four-laning of the Walajahpet/Ranipet section of NH 40 along the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border.
He will also dedicate to the nation four-laned Viluppuram-Puducherry section of NH 332, four-laned Poondiyankuppam-Sattanathapuram section of NH 32, and four-laned Cholapuram-Thanjavur section of NH 36, the statement said.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan, Tamil Nadu State Ministers Thangam Thenarasu (Finance) and S. Rajakannapan (Milk and Dairy Development), Members of Parliament Navas Kani and Dharmar, other elected representatives, officials from the Ministry of Railways and Road Transport, and the general public would be present.
