Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy responded positively to Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s request to to enact Rohith Vemula Act. “We will go forward with the spirit of your thoughts and feelings in making a future we can be proud of,” said the Chief Minister in a post on X.
Mr. Gandhi wrote a letter to the Chief Minister about the discrimination faced by students from Dalit, Adivasi and OBC communities in the educational system. Citing the discrimination experienced by B.R. Ambedkar, the Leader of Opposition said that Mr. Reddy would agree that no child in India should endure what Dr. Ambedkar faced, and the death of bright young people like Rohith Vemula, Payal Tadvi and Darshan Solanki is not acceptable. “It is time to put a firm end to this,” he stated in the letter.
The Telangana Chief Minister, who is currently leading a delegation in Japan, said “I read your letter in the historic city of Hiroshima, Japan. Fortuitously, I read your words just as I was about to visit the holy site of Mahatma Gandhi ji’s statue here. Deeply touched by your words, and the inspiring call for action”.
