Telangana Health Minister promises to examine High Court verdict on PG seats

Minister for Health C. Damodar Raja Narasimha on Wednesday (December 18, 2024) addressed the recent court verdict on admissions to medical PG seats. The Minister assured people that the court’s verdict would be examined thoroughly and no injustice would be done to students from Telangana. He reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of local students and ensuring their rightful access to PG seats.

Taking to X, the Minister said that the government had introduced GOs 148 and 149 to ensure that non-local students, who pursued their studies in Telangana under the 15% unreserved quota, would not be eligible for local quota benefits in PG admissions.

“This decision aims solely to secure justice for Telangana students and is not intended to harm them in any way,” he said.

The Minister also criticised certain groups for misinterpreting the court’s observations, particularly regarding the inclusion of non-locals. He accused them of spreading false propaganda that misled the public.

The Telangana High Court on Tuesday struck down the recently amended rules introduced by the State government concerning the ‘local status’ of candidates for admission to post-graduate medical courses.
