Threads App Launched by Meta How to Sign Up Linked to Instagram Blocking Settings Post Characters Limit All Details

Threads app, a new text-based microblogging platform developed by Facebook’s parent company Meta, was launched on Thursday. The company’s new platform will compete with Twitter and is linked to its popular photo and video sharing app Instagram. Threads is now available to everyone and anyone can sign up and create their profile. The platform is not currently available in the EU, but will reach users in the region in the coming months. Meta says that users will also get access to all the safety tools and features available on Instagram and accessibility features are already available for all users.

Less than seven hours after the app went live, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg tweeted Post It said that more than 10 million (1 crore) users have already signed up to use the app. This is because Instagram has more than 2.35 billion monthly users. If you have received a notification from the Instagram app that your friends have been added to Threads, then here you will get all the important information related to this platform.

How to sign up for Threads on Instagram?

You can sign up for Threads by downloading the app from the Google Play store or App Store. After opening the app, you’ll be asked to sign in using your Instagram account, after which your username and verification status will be stored, which means Meta Threads intends to keep it tied to Instagram.

If you don’t have the Instagram app installed, you’ll need to enter your username and password to proceed. You can then see a list of people you follow on Instagram and you can also follow them in Threads. If you click the Follow button for a user who has not created a profile, Threads will hold the follow request until the user joins Threads.

Method and character limit for posting on threads

As soon as you start following people on threads, you’ll notice that the feed is also showing posts from unknown users. Instagram head Adam Mosseri said that these are recommended posts, which will be shown by Instagram’s algorithm and will help you explore new accounts to follow on the platform. Meta is also working on adding a followers-only feed, which will only show posts from users you follow.

According to Meta, you can post up to 500 characters on the app. This is much more than the default 280 characters available to users who are not subscribed to Twitter Blue. These can be cross-posted to your Instagram Story. According to the company, you can also add links, photos and videos to your posts. The Threads feed displays photos in a carousel format.

Blocking threads or controlling connections

Users and accounts you block on Instagram will remain blocked on Threads. The app will also give you the feature to hide specific replies from users on your posts. The ability to hide replies may come in handy for users who experience targeted trolling or harassment on the platform. Threads also lets you limit or completely disable replies and mentions from people you follow.

In this, you can also filter certain words from appearing in your feed. Meta also says that the Instagram Community Guidelines that govern the photo and video sharing service will also apply to threads.
