The police arrested three persons for allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs to the Gulf by concealing them in a pickle bottle.
The Chakkarakkal police apprehended P. Jisin, K.K. Sreelal, and K.P. Arshad— all residents of Chakkarakkal— in connection with the incident.
According to police, the case came to light on Wednesday night (July 30) when a parcel containing pickles, chips, and other items was delivered to the house of Mithilaj, a Gulf returnee from Kanayannur in Chakkarakkal, who was scheduled to travel abroad the same day.
At the time of delivery, Mithilaj and his wife were reportedly not at home. Suspicion arose when Mithilaj’s father-in-law, Amir, noticed the absence of a label on the pickle bottle and opened it, discovering the concealed packets. He immediately alerted the Chakkarakkal police.
Inside the plastic pickle bottle, police recovered 2.6 grams of suspected MDMA and 3.04 grams of suspected hashish oil, allegedly wrapped in small packets. The contraband was reportedly sent by a neighbour, Jisin, to be handed over to a contact named Vaheen abroad, with instructions to claim that it was provided by Sreelal.
Inspector M.P. Shaji and his team seized the suspected drugs during inspection and arrested the accused following an investigation.
