Three persons were hospitalised on Monday (January 15, 2025) after a reported gas leak at the Moxie Power Generation Limited (formerly Coastal Energen Pvt Ltd), a thermal power plant operating at Melamaruthur in Thoothukudi.
According to an official from the Police department, the gas leak originated from a pipeline at the plant near the coal handing area and affected three workers who were in close proximity, leaving them injured.
The workers were identified as S. Aarumugam Kani from Eppodhumvendran, S. Sankarasubbu from Karungulam, and S. Anburaj from Vallinayakapuram.
The injured workers were immediately transported to a private hospital in Thoothukudi for treatment. Further investigations are on.
