Three summoned by Council Chairperson

The Horticulture Department Secretary and the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of University of Horticulture Sciences, Bagalkot, have been summoned by the Chairman of Legislative Council Basavaraj Horatti as his appointment of BJP MLC Hanumanth Nirani to the Board of the University has not been honoured yet.

On Tuesday, Mr. Nirani had complained that his appointment eight months ago had not been confirmed by the department, and had threatened to move a privilege motion against Horticulture Minister S.S. Mallikarjun if the appointment was not confirmed by the end of the day.

Congress member Puttanna raised the issue in the Council and said that it was not right to dishonour the directions of the council’s chairman, and urged Mr. Horatti to summon the officials.

Mr. Mallikarjun had on Tuesday said that the file was in the Chief Minister’s Office. However, Mr. Horatti had pointed out that the appointment of Badami legislator B.B. Chimmankatti by the Speaker to the Board has been accepted.

Mr. Horatti asked the House Leader and Minor Irrigation Minister S.N. Bose Raju to ensure that the three were present in the Chairman’s chamber at 10.30 a.m. on Thursday.
