Tiruchi Corporation is seeking feedback from the residents as part of the Swachh Survekshan 2024, a national cleanliness survey conducted for cities by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).

The city topped the State in the cleanliness survey in 2023 with a national rank of 112 among 446 cities. Compared to the past, Tiruchi performed well and moved forward in the ranking, paving the way for the officials to step up measures.

Special drive

A special drive to remove posters and painted slogans from the walls and banners from public areas is being conducted to improve the city’s image. Steps to improve waste segregation are being taken.

The civic body has begun promoting the online survey through social media among the residents since it was crucial for the city to improve the national cleanliness ranking. The survey has questions on the efficiency of doorstep waste collection, segregation, and processing of solid waste, and cleanliness of public spaces, parks and toilets.

“We have improved the maintenance of public toilets, transformed garbage vulnerable points, and strengthened door-to-door waste collection. The public perception about the city has greatly improved in recent months, and we expect a better rank in the cleanliness survey,” said M. Vijay Chandran, City Health Officer.

The civic body awaits a field-level inspection by a central team within a week to assess the performance of the city.
