Tiruchi Railway Division records 40% rise in operation of special trains

The Tiruchi Railway Division has run 1,480 special train services from April 1 to December 31 this financial year, recording a 40% rise as compared to the corresponding period last year. The division achieved 93.74% punctuality for express and passenger trains on demand from April 1 to December 31, 2024, Divisional Railway Manager M.S. Anbalagan said here on Sunday. 

Speaking at the Republic Day celebration organised by the division at the Railway Stadium here, Mr. Anbalagan said the division’s earnings in respect to passenger traffic was ₹386.54 crore from April 1 to December 31, 2024 and ₹576.35 crore in goods traffic during the same period. The division had handled 29 million passengers from April 1 to December 31, 2024 which was an increase of 6.58% over the corresponding period last year.

Highlighting the achievements of the division, Mr. Anbalagan said platform levels had been raised at five stations of Serndanur, Varakalpattu, Alapakkam, Tiruthuraiyur, and Parangipettai for easy boarding and alighting. Platform shelters had been added at Vriddhachalam Junction and Lalgudi stations.

Station improvement work with modern facilities taken up under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme had been completed at Ariyalur, Mannargudi, and Polur. The work at four more stations of Vriddhachalam, Tiruvannamalai, Srirangam, and Chidambaram will be completed by February. The work in the remaining eight stations are targeted for completion by March 2025.  The celebrations featured a variety of cultural performances organised by the talented team of the Tiruchi Division, a press release said.
