The Tirupati police are getting ready to install 150 solar-powered CCTV cameras in sensitive areas across the district. The cameras worth ₹10 lakh were procured recently by the department to be installed in areas known to be remote, sensitive in terms of law and order and black spots, besides having power and network connectivity issues.
Apart from working seamlessly as it is power independent, these cameras also record visuals and audios in high quality. With wireless connectivity, the events on camera can be monitored through smart phone from remote locations
Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Harshavardhan Raju, who formally inducted the gadgets into the surveillance network system on Monday, announced that the cameras would be used across Tirupati district to monitor law and order situation, especially in politically sensitive and crime-prone areas like Chandragiri, Gudur and Jeevakona.
Since Tirupati city has enough cameras for surveillance, thanks to the funds sanctioned by the Tirupati Smart City Corporation Limited, these cameras will be used on the outskirts of the city as well as in the farther areas of the district.
“20 cameras will be installed at Tirumala hills for better law and order monitoring,” Mr. Raju told the media. Plans are also afoot to install five cameras on the Garuda Varadhi elevated corridor in Tirupati, which is currently not covered by the third eye, in spite of its extensive usage by VVIPs bound to Tirumala.
Mr. Raju also hinted at the possibility of deployment of drones to overcome manpower shortage in ensuring high quality surveillance, especially in remote areas. It was only recently that drones were flown by the department in Bhakarapeta area to zero in on illicit liquor-brewing hideouts.
Additional Superintendent K. Ravi Manoharachary, Circle Inspectors (CIs) Sadiq Ali (Special Branch), Vinod Kumar (Cyber Cell), Eswar (Command Control) and Reserve Inspector Ramana Reddy took part.
