Two persons drowned in the Anayirankal Dam reservoir, near Rajakumari, in Idukki on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Jaison Thachamattathil, 45, and Biju, 54, both residents of Rajakumari in Idukki. Jaison was the ward memberof the Rajakumari panchayat.
According to the police, on Monday evening, a four-member gang, including the deceased, had reached near the reservoir. However, the dam’s security personnel objected to them bathing in the reservoir, prompting them to leave. However, Biju and Jaison later reached the other side of the dam after informing the others that they are leaving for Tamil Nadu. It is suspected that they drowned while taking a bath in the reservoir.
Scuba teams
On Tuesday morning, local people alerted the security personnel when they found Jaison’s vehicle near the reservoir. The Fire and Rescue Services personnel recovered his body with the assistance of the local people. Scuba teams from Kothamangalam and Thodupuzha led a search operation and recovered the body of Biju by around 3.30 p.m. on Tuesday.The bodies were shifted to the Adimaly taluk hospital for post-mortem examination.
Jaison is survived by wife, Iby, and children, Ajal and Angel. Biju is survived by wife, Sumatha, and children, Krishna and Karthika.
