A dispute over bursting firecrackers escalated into a violent clash between two families at 4th Mile, Chengala, Kasaragod, Kerala, later on Sunday night, leaving four people injured.
The Vidyanagar police have arrested three individuals in connection with the incident, which involved the use of deadly weapons.
According to the police, the altercation broke out after the accused allegedly burst firecrackers in retaliation to being questioned by the injured party. The FIR states that the attackers used knives and swords, hacking and stabbing members of the opposing family.
The arrested have been identified as Moideen (65), Azharuddin (29) and Mithilaj (24). The police have also registered a case against four others – Abdul Khader, alias, Cheku, Mujju, Nafees and another suspect – under Sections 189 (2), 191(2), 191(3), 126(2), 118(1) and 109 (1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The injured are Fawaz (20), who was seriously wounded and had been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru, and three others – Ibrahim Zainuddin (62), his son T.M. Munsheed (28) and Razak Mohammed, who were taken to a private hospital. All belong to the same locality at Citizen Nagar, 4th Mile.
Ibrahim Zainuddin was reportedly held from behind and stabbed on the head and back, while his younger brother and son-in-law were slashed as they tried to intervene. His son also sustained injuries in the attack.
The police recorded Ibrahim Zainuddin’s statement at the hospital.
Further investigation is under way.
