A 26-year-old woman and her lover were arrested by Veppakuppam police in Vellore on Wednesday for murdering her husband J. Bharath (36).

Police said the arrested persons were identified as B. Nandini, a native of Kuppapalayam village in Vellore, and her lover V. Sanjay (21), a labourer.

After completing his catering course, Bharath joined as a cook at a private hotel in Chennai. He married Nandini, who also belongs to the same village, and the couple have two daughters.

Police said that Bharath stayed at a rented house in Tambaram and visited his family in the village during weekends. As Bharath was away from home, Sanjay got acquainted with Nandini. Subsequently, the duo got into a relationship. Bharath came to know about the relationship and regularly quarrelled with his wife. He also warned his wife not to continue the relationship.

Police said Nandini and Sanjay decided to eliminate Bharath as he remained a hindrance to their relationship. On Monday, when Bharath, along with his wife and daughter, was returning in a two-wheeler to his house in the village, Sanjay intercepted him and hacked him to death.

During the investigation, police found that Sanjay was involved in the crime after Bharath’s daughter identified him at the crime spot. An inquiry with Sanjay revealed the plot behind the murder. The duo was arrested and lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A case was registered and further probe is underway.
