Woman files gangrape case against Munirathna and associates

A 40-year-old woman on Tuesday accused Munirathna, Rajarajeshwarinagar MLA, of allegedly gangraping her with his associates and threatening her with dire consequences at his office two years ago.

Based on a complaint, the RMC yard police charged Munirathna and four of his associates under Section 376D (gangrape), 270 (maliciously doing any act to spread dangerous disease), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 354(outrage modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (insult of woman’s modesty) of the IPC.

According to the complaint, the accused allegedly had a grudge against the victim for being a BJP worker and using his influence foisted two false cases against her.

While she was out on bail in June 2023, his associates allegedly approached her and took her to Munirathna’s office in Yeshwanthpur promising help. The accused allegedly raped her and threatened to kill the victim s son, she said in the complaint.

The accused later allegedly dropped her home and threatened to kill her and her family if she revealed the incident to anyone.

The victim alleged that she developed health complications this January and went to the hospital where the doctor confirmed she was suffering from an untreatable disease.

She allegedly attempted to end her life on Monday but her neighbour saved her by taking her to the doctor. After recovery, she approached the police and filed the complaint.
