A 50-year-old woman was reportedly hacked to death by her son at Payona in Kattippara panchayat near Thamarassery in Kozhikode on Saturday (January 18) afternoon.
The victim, Kayikkal Subaida, was recuperating from a surgery for brain tumour at her sister’s house. The Thamarassery police arrested her son, Ashiq, 24.
Subaida’s body was shifted to the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital mortuary.
According to the police, Ashiq had borrowed a billhook knife from a neighbour on the pretext of husking coconuts. At the time of the incident around 2.30 p.m., Subaid’s sister was reportedly not present in the house.
Ashiq had reportedly undergone treatment at various de-addiction centres earlier.
