The Kanigiri police have arrested a woman, who allegedly burgled a house in Kanigiri in November last year, and recovered 25 sovereigns from her possession.
Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday (December 25), Prakasam Superintendent of Police A.R. Damodar said Vemula Akhila used to visit her relative B. Venkata Ramana frequently and planned to steal jewellery from his house.
When the complainant’s family members were away, the accused, who observed the keys kept under the steps, entered the house and stole gold ornaments worth about ₹12.5 lakh. Akhila is a native of Pamuru in Prakasam district, the SP said.
Following a complaint, the Kanigiri police registered a case and launched an investigation. A team, led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) K. Nageswara Rao and Kanigiri Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) M. Maheswara Rao, arrested the accused from RTC depot in Ongole town on Wednesday and recovered the gold, the SP said.
