A 26-year-old M.Tech graduate, suspected to be suffering from mental illness, strangled her three-year-old daughter to death before hanging herself at her rented house in the district headquarters town of Peddapalli on Wednesday night.
Police identified the deceased as Sahithi, a native of Vedira village in Karimnagar district, and her daughter Rithanya.
She resorted to the extreme step when her husband Venugopal, an employee in an insurance company, was away. Police suspect mental health issues to be a reason for her drastic step.
A case was registered based on a complaint by the parents of the deceased woman and a detailed investigation is under way to ascertain the exact reason behind the latter’s suicide.
