Worker dies near Vaniyambadi town due to lift crash

A 38-year-old worker died after the lift he was travelling crashed at a private tannery unit near Vaniyambadi town in Tirupattur on Saturday.

Police said the deceased person was identified as S. Hakim Ahmed. He was living with his wife and four children in the town. Initial inquiry revealed that Ahmed was working in a private tannery unit. On Saturday, Ahmed took the lift inside the unit to go to the fifth floor of the building when the steel rope of the facility got snapped. It resulted in sudden fall of the lift to the ground floor. In the impact, Ahmed, who was alone in the lift, sustained serious injuries.

He was rushed to Government Taluk Hospital in Vaniyambadi town where doctors declared that Ahmed was brought dead. A case was registered by Vaniyambadi Town police. Further probe is underway.
