Mayiladuthurai District Sessions Court has sentenced a 20-year-old youth to 27 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl and threatening her.
The crime was committed in 2020 when the accused, A. Sanjeevi, harassed and intimidated a 13-year-old girl. Following a complaint from the parent, a case was registered at the Mayiladuthurai All-Women Police Station. The investigation, led by then Inspector Koperundevi, resulted in the arrest and prosecution of the accused.
After a thorough examination, District and Sessions Judge R. Vijayakumari pronounced the verdict. Accused Sanjeevi was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexual assault under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, along with a fine of ₹5,000. He was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for issuing criminal threats, with an additional fine of ₹5,000.
The convict has been transferred to Cuddalore Central Prison.
