Youth strangles sister to death

A 21-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her younger brother at their home in Penjarla village, Kothur, on Monday morning after he found her speaking to her boyfriend over the phone.

The victim, identified as D. Ruchita, had recently completed her undergraduate studies and had been at home for the past two months, preparing to pursue a postgraduate course.

According to police, the incident was reported between 10.30 a.m. and 11 a.m., when their elder brother had stepped out. Ruchita’s 19-year-old brother, D. Rohit, a second-year Industrial Training Institute (ITI) student, reportedly walked in on her while she was on a phone call with her boyfriend, a 22-year-old man from the same village, with whom she had been in a relationship for the past 3-4 years.

An argument ensued between the siblings, during which Rohit allegedly strangled Ruchita to death in a fit of rage.

The incident came to light when their parents returned home later in the evening and found Ruchita unresponsive. They immediately alerted the police.

The Kothur police booked a case and arrested Rohit. Further investigations is underway.
