A delegation of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), who included B. Satyanarayana, V. Srinivas, M. Nagarjuna, K. Nageswara Rao and Ambati Rambabu, submitted a memorandum to Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer on Thursday on “lack of adequate security” for party president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy during his visit to the Guntur market yard on Wednesday.
Speaking to the media later, Mr. Satyanarayana said the government’s “negligence” in providing security to Mr. Jagan was a matter of serious concern, and insisted that it was a part of the NDA’s “vindictive politics.”
‘Governor surprised’
Mr. Satyanarayana claimed that the Governor was surprised by the “inaction of the police” and promised an inquiry into the issue.
“The government and senior police officials have to bear the responsibility if anything happens to Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy,” he said, and insisted that the government failed in supporting the chilli farmers, and its assurance to take remedial action was an empty rhetoric.
Meanwhile, YSRCP MP P.V. Midhun Reddy appealed to the Centre to provide enhanced security cover to Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy in view of the “threat perception” in the coalition government.
In letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he recalled instances of “attack by miscreants” at Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Tadepalli residence and saw a “larger conspiracy” to restrict his mobility during the NDA regime in the State.
Mr. Midhun Reddy also recalled Mr. Jagan’s visit to the Guntur chilli market yard sans proper security cover in spite of prior communication to the State agencies.
